The Malpensa and Varese State Police have arrested, for extradition purposes, a twenty-four-year-old French man of Moroccan origin, wanted by French authorities for failing to sign in, having previously been detained in France on charges related to jihadist terrorism. Specifically, he was reported departing from Malpensa Airport on an unspecified flight. Using available computer systems, Malpensa Air Border Police officers immediately began checks to identify the flight the man was boarding and locate him.
In record time, officers were able to determine that the wanted man was aboard a plane bound for Bahrain, already taxiing on the airport runways. In coordination with the airport management body, Border Police blocked the flight from taking off, which was then returned to the apron. The individual was then removed from the aircraft and taken to the Polaria offices for an investigation. During the investigation, officers found in his possession a key corresponding to a vehicle he had used to arrive at the airport, the license plate of which he claimed not to remember. The vehicle was located in a parking lot adjacent to the departures area and thoroughly inspected. Following the investigation, pursuant to a European arrest warrant issued by French authorities, the individual was arrested for extradition purposes by Polaria officers and DIGOS personnel from the Varese Police Headquarters who responded to the scene. After completing the formal procedures, the French citizen was taken to the Busto Arsizio prison and placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office at the Milan Court of Appeal.
