An anti-jihadist operation has brought officers of the Spanish National Police to the Zaragoza municipality of Fuentes de Ebro. As first reported by Heraldo de Aragón and confirmed by this newspaper, the National Police made two arrests as part of an operation of this kind.
The investigation is being directed by Spain’s National Court in Madrid, and officers from the National Police’s General Information Commissariat traveled from Madrid to the town, which has no more than 4,500 inhabitants, to carry out the arrests.
According to Aragón TV, those arrested are a middle-aged Algerian man and his 25-year-old son. The operation reportedly took place in the early hours of Tuesday, and as many as five National Police vans were deployed.
For now, no further information is known about the arrests because the investigation is under judicial secrecy.
The mayor of Fuentes de Ebro, María Pilar Palacín, confirmed that she was aware of the events but declined to comment on the investigation because it is “such an important matter” and is under judicial secrecy.
