According to Le Point, France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutor (PNAT) opened a preliminary investigation last summer into the Union Juive Française pour la Paix (UJFP) – the French Jewish Union for Peace – on suspicions of financing terrorism.
Founded in 1994, the UJFP is an anti-Zionist association. Authorities suspect that it raised over €600,000 for Gaza, while maintaining ties with Hamas.
The case partly originated at the Biocybèle fair in the Tarn region of France, where UJFP members Pierre Stambul and Sarah Katz gave a talk titled “Farming Under Bombs in Gaza”. Audience members recorded footage in which the two allegedly discussed links between the UJFP and Hamas without caution – remarks that drew the attention of authorities.
Further suspicion arose from the UJFP website, where an individual named Abu Amir is identified as the group’s representative in Gaza, in charge of communications and donation collections for Gazan farmers. Investigators believe this refers to Abu Amir Eleiwa, head of the organization Humani’Terre, which has also drawn scrutiny.
Back in 2024, UJFP had already been named in another legal procedure involving an association suspected of terrorist financing, participation in a terrorist criminal conspiracy, and aggravated money laundering.
In 2020, the organization sparked controversy after republishing an essay by Houria Bouteldja, in which the decolonial activist wrote: “No one is innocently Israeli.”
The investigation is ongoing.
