A new antisemitic act has been reported in France. A swastika was found near the entrance of Croix-Pasquier kindergarten in the northern part of Tours (Indre-et-Loire) on Tuesday, December 16. The graffiti was discovered on a wall of the school, likely during the night between Monday and Tuesday, according to La Nouvelle République.
Police were called around 8:30 a.m. and arrived at the scene on Rue Saint-Exupéry, where they noted a small swastika drawn in black marker on a sheet of plywood temporarily replacing a window. Additionally, two doorbells had been set on fire.
Municipal workers were quickly dispatched to remove the graffiti, according to a school staff member present at the site.
The local education authority confirmed the presence of an antisemitic tag near the building’s intercom system and stated that they are being “particularly vigilant in response to this incident, which undermines the values of the Republic.”
The City of Tours has filed an official complaint.
