Several individuals threw stones on Monday toward a Jewish school in Saint-Louis, located in the Haut-Rhin department, “striking a 10-year-old child” and damaging a vehicle parked in the courtyard. An investigation has been launched.
The Mulhouse prosecutor’s office announced this Tuesday, April 21, the opening of an investigation after a Jewish school in Saint-Louis and the home of Jewish residents were targeted by stone-throwing the previous evening.
“An active investigation is underway under the direction of the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office for acts of aggravated violence based on the victim’s true or perceived membership in an ethnic group, nation, alleged race, or specific religion, as well as for the degradation of vehicles,” stated public prosecutor Nicolas Heitz in a press release.
The events took place on Monday around 6:00 PM. The rabbi of the Saint-Louis Talmudic school alerted police to the presence of a group of several youths near the school parking lot, adding that he heard “references to Hitler and Jews,” according to the magistrate.
A Second Round of Stone-Throwing Reported
The group then threw stones toward the school, hitting a 10-year-old child and damaging a vehicle parked in the courtyard.
“At approximately 6:20 PM, a second episode of stone-throwing was reported toward the home of a member of the rabbi’s family, near the school,” the prosecutor explained, resulting in further damage to a vehicle.
“The investigations, entrusted to the Saint-Louis police station, aim to identify the perpetrators of these acts and establish the precise sequence of events,” the prosecutor added.
