A man was arrested after allegedly shouting antisemitic insults at customers sitting at a restaurant terrace, in the context of a worrying rise in acts targeting the Jewish community in France.
A man was arrested and taken into police custody on Tuesday after allegedly directing antisemitic insults at customers seated on the terrace of a restaurant in Paris’s 11th arrondissement, CNews reported, citing a police source. The incident took place in the early afternoon, at around 2:40 p.m., outside the establishment “Bozen Voltaire.”
According to the initial information, the individual, who appeared to be intoxicated, approached several customers and verbally abused them, including by calling them “dirty Jews.” Police were alerted, intervened quickly, and arrested him. He was then placed in custody.
One of the targeted customers filed a complaint. At this stage, the Paris prosecutor’s office has not yet communicated what judicial action will follow.
This incident comes amid a troubling increase in antisemitic acts in France. The authorities have stressed that such incidents are being monitored closely, as international tensions, particularly in the Middle East, are contributing to a toxic climate.
The Interior Minister recently stated that antisemitic acts reached a “historically high” level in 2025, with more than 1,300 incidents recorded. Over the past twenty-five years, the last three years have seen the highest levels, in a context of a sharp rise since the attacks of October 7, 2023.
The investigation is ongoing in order to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and assess whether additional criminal charges may apply.
