On Thursday, photos of destroyed tombstones at the Jewish cemetery in Humenné circulated on the Internet. Someone had drawn a swastika on them. The Christian embassy in Jerusalem today called on the general public to be more sensitive to manifestations of anti-Semitism in connection with the incident. They also addressed the message to politicians.
They are calling on Robert Fico’s government to consistently suppress public displays of racial hatred towards Jews. “Inattention to such behavior in the past has led to tragedies of enormous proportions,” the Christians from the embassy recalled the legacy of the Holocaust. They strongly condemned the incident in eastern Slovakia.
