The CGT Ville de Lyon trade union received a bomb threat on Saturday, shortly before a march held in tribute to far-right activist Quentin Deranque.
An email was sent to several district town halls in Lyon about half an hour before the demonstration began. In the message, the sender claimed to have placed explosives inside the CGT Ville de Lyon offices, located in the city’s 1st arrondissement.
“I did my job well so they can’t be found,” the sender allegedly wrote, stating that the bomb was set to explode at 4 p.m. The message included threats such as “You will all die. You will pay a hundredfold for having killed Quentin,” along with racist insults and political remarks, including “We’ll make you suffer in 2027.”
Sébastien Douillet, general secretary of the CGT Ville de Lyon, reacted by saying: “We don’t share the same ideas. But we don’t wish death on anyone.”
The union has filed a formal complaint. According to reports, the city hall has done the same.
On Monday, municipal police inspected the premises but found no explosives. Authorities believe it is highly unlikely that the individual was able to access the building, which is described as highly secure.
